I work for a legitimate company!

Today we're moving from the old warehouse, where we've been since June, to another more professional part of the office. Unlike others in the department, I've enjoyed the area we've been in, thanks in large part to my ability to laugh at myself. We've had all sorts of "problems" in the area that made the work day a little more interesting. With the occasional leaky roof, errant squirrel, birds on probably close to 10 separate occasions, one with two birds at the same time, we were reminded that we could not completely escape mother nature as much as corporate America might try. The HVAC is housed above us and when we first moved down I had problems being on the phone because there was so much background noise.. Four desks were directly exposed to the vents, including one in front of mine. Through the summer they wore coats and sweatshirts at their desks while I had my fan on because I was sweating It was humorous seeing them come back a minute after they got up to go to lunch because they forgot it was 90 degrees outside and they didn't need the coat. They didn't think it was funny. After a couple calls to OSHA adjustments were made, but it still produces a constant low hum of blowing air drowning out any extraneous noise. Our vaulted 30ft ceilings expose not only the huge HVAC system but the piping for the sprinkler systems and the support beams to the metal ceiling. The room is windowless, but we can tell when it is raining heavily because the roof produces a rattling patter. The new area promises to be much healthier and I look forward to escaping the days of 12 straight hours of nothing but burning florescent light and being able to constantly reassure myself that the real world did not disappear while lost in an evil world of Excel.

I'm thinking I should get a plant because my new desk is right by a window!
